About Us

Top of the Hill Restaurant & Brewery—affectionately known as "TOPO"—opened its doors in 1996 with a simple mission: to preserve the character of Chapel Hill by keeping national chains like T.G.I. Friday's out of the town's iconic main intersection. Today, we're proud to be the fifth-oldest brewpub in North Carolina, offering a one-of-a-kind dining and drinking experience that reflects the spirit and heritage of our hometown.

Since day one, TOPO has been where Tar Heels come to celebrate. From everyday gatherings to unforgettable moments like the 2005, 2009, and 2017 NCAA National Championships, we've been at the heart of the action. (Our distillery even bottled the excitement with commemorative whiskey and rum honoring UNC's legendary win over Duke in the 2022 Final Four but that's another story.) And for more than two decades, TOPO has been home to the UNC Football and Basketball Coaches Shows.

We've been honored with over 70 Best of the Triangle awards—from "Best Microbrew" and "Best Outdoor Dining" to "Best Place to Watch a Game." And our beers have made waves beyond North Carolina: in 2010, our Belltower Blueberry Wheat was named the best fruit wheat beer in the world. In 2012, both Rams Head IPA and Singleton Ale claimed global recognition in their respective categories.

Whether you're a lifelong Chapel Hill resident, a UNC fan in town for the game, or just passing through, we hope you'll stop by, grab a pint, and become part of the TOPO tradition.
